About Eco Schools

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life.

Pupils are the driving force behind Eco-Schools. Our Eco Representatives from Years 7 to 11 are a vital part of the school Eco Committee and have been instrumental in deciding our direction and taking action as we build on our Silver Award and work towards the prestigious Green Flag Award. These students have undertaken an environmental audit of the school and worked towards developing a comprehensive eco action plan for BGSG. Through assemblies and their Form groups the Eco Reps have encouraged all students to get involved and make our school a greener place to be.

The Eco-Schools programme focuses on nine key topics. These are:

Energy
Water
Biodiversity
School grounds
Healthy living
Transport
Litter
Waste
Global citizenship

As part of the action plan developed by the Eco Committee BGSG has chosen to focus on Energy, Waste and School Grounds as our main areas for action.
